  • Formula D at Evergreen Speedway

    Formula D at Evergreen Speedway

We drove down to Monroe Washington with The Speed Syndicate in the early morning to catch the Formula D drift competition at Evergreen Speedway. For many of us, it was the first time watching Formula D and we were quite excited. We knew we were close to the venue as the long lineups of spectators rolled into the parking lots. Also the screeching of tires, roar of boosted engines and cloud of tire smoke told us this was place to be. This is part one of our photo coverage of the drift competition. Let me just say that the experience was incredible! It was such a joy to watch these skilled drivers compete. To be able to walk into the pit areas, watch the crews work, talk with drivers, and see these cars up close is fantastic. I highly recommend driving down next year to watch it live. We’ll be sure to cover the event next year!

  • Yokohama DTP Show 2011

    Yokohama DTP Show 2011

The DTP show came back this year after being in hiatus for the past couple of years. The turnout was good with local shops and cars representing. Vancouver doesn’t get a lot of shows like this so hopefully DTP will spark more events/shows throughout the year for the local car scene. It was unfortunate that the typical pacific northwest rain decided to show up but that didn’t seem to dampen the spirits as there were still large crowds coming to check out the show.

  • Royal City Show and Shine 2011 – Hot Rod Heaven?

Royal City Show and Shine 2011 – Hot Rod Heaven?

After attending the Big Northwest Subaru Meet, the next day was the Royal City Show and Shine in New Westminster. For the whole day, Columbia Street is closed off and hundreds of classic muscle cars, hot rods, and whatever is unique are put on display for the general public to have a look. Its a great day to spend with the family and to check out some vintage rides.

I was pretty bagged from the Scoobie show the day before so I wasn’t really planning to catch it this year. However I was in the neighborhood after a lunch with the girlfriend so we thought we’d go check it out. Here is a small sample of the cars that we saw.

  • The Big North West Subaru Meet

The Big North West Subaru Meet

The artofstance guys headed down to Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA for the Big NW Subie Meet! We could tell we were getting closer to the location as we saw more and more modified Subarus converging on the location.

It was fantastic to see hundreds of cars from the Pacific Northwest and beyond to meet and share in passion for these AWD rally proven monsters on a hot sunny day! There were also vendors and sponsors that had Scoobie parts/services at discounted prices. A short autocross track was also set up to provide some racing. We even decided to enter my car into the car show at the last minute just for kicks to represent Vancouver. We’re looking forward to next years meet!

Here’s some of the cars that were there:

  • 2011 Italian Car Show

    2011 Italian Car Show

Every Father’s Day in North Vancouver, the Italian Car Show takes place at Waterfront Park. Its a great way to see a lof of vintage and new exotics in a free event for the family. There are also Italian motorbikes (Ducati, Moto Guzzi’s) as well as French automobiles like Citroens and Peugeots. This year there didn’t seem to be as many cars as previous years with much of the lawn sitting empty. Perhaps it was the overcast weather that played a part in participation. There were still a lot of great cars to be seen.

  • GRAPE Auto Meet

    GRAPE Auto Meet

Richard and I organized an automotive photography meet with some of the members of the Great Revscene Action Photography Enthusiasts (GRAPE). We hit up two locations for some photos including Iona Beach for a rig shot that Tomasz set up. We were lucky enough to have a beautiful sunset as a backdrop as the evening grew darker. We wrapped things up by having some late now chow at No. 9 Restaurant at Lansdowne Mall.
