NW-Built and Stancewars Golden Gardens Meet

Yesterday, we drove down to check out the NW-Built and Stancewars Golden Gardens meet in Seattle Washington. Here are some of the photos I took at the event. It reminded me of the Revscene Spring meet but a lot smaller.

  • Nissan S15 from New Zealand

    Nissan S15 from New Zealand

Today we look at Jamie Cashmores’ Nissan S15 from New Zealand shot by Alex Leben. When Jamie Cashmore left high school, he had one thing in mind and that was to buy a Nissan Silvia S15. He got a job at a local garden center and he was given a broom to sweep the yard. Ten minutes later, Jamie told himself in the end, it would all be worth it. After seven months of saving every penny he earned and staying home on weekends, he purchased his 1999 NA Nissan Silvia S15. In a way, its how it all began after a road trip with his dad to bring the car over from Wellington.

A month later, Jamie was t-boned coming out of a one way street. Jamie was paid out and a few months later and he bought his current Spec-R. For insurance purposes, he had to wait two years before he could start modifying it. Having only started to pour money into his car late last year, he is excited to get into modifying more next year as he studies audio engineering in university.

When Jamie first got the car, there were a few things he had to take care of. The hood had little bumps from hail stones but that needed to be fixed. A quick call and a mobile guy came to repair over 40 dents with only the use of hand tools! Jamie recently took the front bumper off to get the headlights out to re-seal them to stop condensation from building up. However this proved to be unsuccessful. For the moment he has taken out the high beam bulbs and it seems to be working until he finds a more permanent solution.

Jamie gives us a bit of insight on the car scene in New Zealand.

“We definitely follow the rest of the world in some regard. Different parts of the country have different ways of doing things. The whole stance thing is gaining a lot of attention at the moment. It’s just fashion at the end of the day though I guess. Everyone wants their cars to look like artofstances’ latest feature – and who doesn’t! Money is a big deal and our economy is so small we just can’t source the stuff you guys can.”

Jamie would like to give a shout out:

“Got to give a massive thanks to my photographer Alex Leben from LEBENlife photography. You can check out his stuff here – http://www.facebook.com/lebenlifephotog

The local Silvia forum to! SNZ is an awesome inspiration and there are a lot of knowledgeable people always wiling to lend a hand.
Of course, I’d love you to follow my progress on Facebook!”

  • Granville Island Photo Meet

    Granville Island Photo Meet

Last night, our friend Jimmy quickly organized a casual photo meetup to photograph some cars. Granville Island is always a nice backdrop for car photos and the lot we were in is a popular spot at night. What started as a small gathering doesn’t always end up that way through word of mouth. We had a great showing of at least 20 cars. Lately there have been more and more casual car meetups being organized. Be sure to check out this Revscene thread to see what meetups are being organized. If you’re local or just in town, I encourage you to come check out cars, take some photos, and chat with other car enthusiasts.

The owner of Blackmarkers clothing store brought his supercharged Honda S2000 that was built by The Speed Syndicate.

Our friend Alex drove out his Datsun 240z, which may be the last time we get to see it. It may be sold this week and we look forward to see what Alex picks up next.

Anson asked for a shot of his BMW and I was happy to oblige.

Here’s some shots of some other cars that showed up. Unfortunately I didn’t get many photos of the other car. Sorry guys, next time!

  • Behind the Scenes with the ArtofStance Team

Behind the Scenes with the ArtofStance Team

So how much work goes into a car photography shoot?  Its not unheard of for the team to spend two hours on a photoshoot with several hours in our studios doing editing and post processing. The team scouts locations before the shoots and we always strive to shoot at locations that haven’t been done over and over. We also bring our rig set up for rig shots because who doesn’t love a good rig shot of their car. Here’s a brief look at some behind the scenes action from behind the lens.

During the shoot of Kevin Yong’s BMW, there was a ditch along the road which allowed Tom to get down low to get some great shots of the car. Take advantage of your environment and change your angles. The weather turned out great that morning for our shoot. The morning sun and Fall leaves set the tone for a great session. The full team was out for this one.

I used to organize auto photo meets with other photography enthusiasts through Revscene, sometimes we were lucky enough to have some great gear to play with.

We parked Quinton’s S55 near a fountain pool in downtown Vancouver for our early morning shoot. Tom being creative as always had an idea for a cinemagraph for our feature. He’s never afraid to get his feet wet for creativity.

The day after Tailored 2011 in Washington, we were at our hotel ready to cover Waterwerks. Rich decided to get started on the photos from Tailored while I started on season 1 of The Big Bang Theory.

We got the rig set up on Ed’s Integra Type-R and prepared to do some rig shots. The road was quite deserted which allowed us to shoot undistracted.

Tom and I up at SFU trying out his rig on his old VW Corrado. It wasn’t long however till security came around and told us to move along.

  • We Missus This Lexus

    We Missus This Lexus

A few months ago, our friend Aleks lost his Lexus IS300 due to a van that swerved into his lane during morning traffic. It also didn’t help that the tow truck driver thought he could get underneath his car and smashed into the front bumper. You might remember seeing his car at Stance Wars with his Halloween theme. Personally, I’ve always loved the Lexus IS300 since the first time I saw one in Hong Kong, long before it hit North America. Aleks has a new project car now but we’ll always miss seeing and hearing his IS300 through the streets of Vancouver.

  • Dirty Red Beast

    Dirty Red Beast

Its winter time and there hasn’t been much going on these days until today. With a bit of sunshine in this cold weather I decided take advantage and have a little shoot of a friends red Mitsubishi Lancer. The car was dirty as hell but with some luck with a location we got a few photos done. Look for a full feature in the spring or summer. For now, lets just hope we get more sunshine this winter!
